Single Flap or Double Flap? This page is the single flap version. See the double flap door mount version. Double flaps would provide more insulation for your home, perfect for climates that experience extreme hot or cold weather. If you live in a more temperate climate the single flap would be enough.

Note: Endura Flap pet doors are not recommended for use by kittens or very small dogs. Cats have been successful using Small; however, a few have found the Medium difficult to use. We would not recommend using the Large or Extra Large or any of the double flap versions for cats.

Single Flap Door Mount

Step 1 Measure your Pet

  • If you have not yet measured your pet, watch this video to ensure the pet door will work.
  • If possible, remove the door from its hinges using a screwdriver and hammer to tap out the hinge pins. Lay the door flat for installation.
  • Tape the provided template to the door. The top edge of the cut-out line should be at least 7.6 cm above the pet's shoulders.
  • Be careful not to cut too close to the bottom of the door as your may reduce the door's strength.
  • Level the top edge of the cut-out line

Step 2 Drill Holes

  • Once you are certain the pet door will work with your door, make sure the template is level, and mark the outline with a pencil. Remove the template and drill holes through the corners just inside of the lines using a 9.5 mm drill bit.
  • Make sure your drill is kept level and drills all the way through the door.

Step 3 Trace Template and Cut Door

  • Using a jigsaw, cut along the marked lines, making sure to cut straight.
  • We recommend applying masking tape on the door so the jigsaw doesn’t leave scratch marks.

Step 4 Check Weather-Stripping

  • Ensure the weather-stripping is firmly pressed in the groove on both frames. Weather-stripping indicated in red.

Step 5 Position Frames

  • Place the trim frame on the outside of the door and the flap frame on the inside
  • Trim Frame is exterior frame, Flap Frame is frame with flap & locking cover

Step 6 Select Screws & Insert

  • Select appropriate screws and insert them into the pet door from the inside. Do not fully tighten screws until all four screws are inserted and the pet door is leveled. Use the included installation magnet to help align the screws.
  • Do not fully tighten screws until all four screws are inserted and the pet door is leveled

Step 7 Tighten Screws

  • Once the pet door is leveled, tighten the screws so that the weather-stripping compresses and the frames touch the door.
  • Do not over tighten.

Step 8 Insert Hole Plugs

  • Push the four screw covers in by hand to cover the screws.

Step 9 Apply Silicone

  • Apply silicone where the two frames meet around all four sides.
  • It's also recommended to apply silicone where the outside frame meets the door at the top and sides, leaving the bottom open to allow water to escape.

PANELED DOORS

The best way to install the pet door is to have it straddle the recessed area of one of the panels. Have the pet door sit on the flat area in the middle, side, and below the recessed panel. The frame will cross the recessed area on the top, so you will be left with a gap. The easiest way to fill this gap is to get battens or shims from a local hardware store, and cut them to fit. When that gap is mostly filled, caulk the remaining areas to seal the doggy door to the surface of the people door. If the space is very irregular you can also use a squishy foam weather stripping, which will compress down for a tight fit. When finished, use caulking to seal the door.

FAQ

Can I install this door into my glass door?

No, this dog door cannot be installed into single or double pane glass. However, if you have a sliding door, you can get the Thermo Panel 3e, which has the same flap installed into a door insert.

What makes this door so great?

There has been lots of discussion as to why the Endura Flap doggy door is such a high performing pet door, but for engineers, pet supplies enthusiasts, or those looking for some more technical information, here is a 74-page dog door energy efficiency study‚ showing what makes it so special.

Can a large dog & cat use the same double flap door?

Our doors have a strong magnetic seal which may be too strong for a cat. However, if you have cats and dogs sharing a door, you can decrease the magnetic resistance of the threshold on large and extra-large sizes making it easier for a cat to use. For small or medium pet doors you can also offset the magnets on the Endura once the flap is installed.

Is this flap flexible?

The Endura Flap is slightly more rigid than other economy-style flaps, but it is a safe, soft, flexible flap.

Is a single flap enough for winter weather?

A single Endura Flap is extremely energy-efficient and capable of withstanding winds up to 50 mph. It is the only door that allows you to increase the magnetic strength for increased wind resistance. It is recommended for timid pets. The double flap increases the energy efficiency further.

Does the door sound very loud when the dog goes in or out?

When the flap gets to its resting place there is a snapping sound when the magnets employ. This sound lets you know the door is doing its job sealing out the elements and keeping your heated or cooled air inside.

I do not have to contend with wind or rain, if I buy the single flap version of the wall dog door is it possible to add the second flap in the future?

It is possible, but it not simple and can be quite costly. You will need to purchase a new inner or outer frame with the flap as single flap and double flap frames are built differently.

Why is there a difference in pet door flap size for the single versus the double flap models?

Since each flap is dually walled making them 2.22 cm thick as the pet pushes through the first flap will actually hit the second flap. This makes it so that there is a loss of about 2.54 cm of space a the top of the endura double flap pet doors as they enter or exit.

Warranty

Endura Flap products have a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under standard regular use. Damage caused by not using the product as intended, improper installation, and chewing is not covered under this warranty.
