Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is it to install a pet door in a wall or door?

Installing an Endura Flap wall dog door takes a certain level of skill since you will need to cut through your wall without hitting any pipes or wires. Installation in a typical swing door can be much easier, but you should still be comfortable with working with the required tools and materials. We recommend hiring a professional if you are not confident in your abilities.

See our installation guide to learn about installation methods.

Is the flap on the inside or outside for the single flap model?

The flap is on the Endura Flap pet door for the wall's interior frame, the one inside your house, for the single flap model. For the double flap dog door for walls, there is a flap installed on both the interior and exterior frame.

What if I want to close the pet door at night?

Every Endura Flap Pet Door comes with a Locking Cover to block access to the flap when needed.

What’s the difference between a door mount and a wall mount?
Are replacement flaps available?

Yes, we carry replacement Endura Flaps. See our full selection of replacement parts and accessories for more replacement options.

Can cats and dogs share this door?

Yes, cats and dogs can share this door. However, we do not recommend flap sizes larger than the Small for cats, since these flaps are so insulating and heavy-duty.

If you need a larger flap size for your dog, you can adjust the magnet strength so that your cat can use the door.

Keep in mind that this will reduce the wind resistance of the flap. If you have a very large dog but want a door for your cat as well, you might consider installing another Endura Flap for Your Cat with a small flap size.

What is the difference between the Thermo Panel 3e and the Dual Pane Thermo Panel 3e doggie door for patio doors?

Both pet doors for sliding doors feature the award-winning Endura flap, but the Dual Pane Thermo Panel is made with dual-pane glass and the original Thermo Panel is made with single-pane glass. This means that the Dual Pane Thermo Panel dog door for sliding doors has a higher insulation value than the original Thermo Panel 3e.

While you don’t need to match your panel’s glass with that of your sliding door, doing so will make for a cleaner aesthetic. You can read more about the difference between single and dual pane glass on our blog.

How do I install my brand new sliding glass door panel insert?

Each installation process is a little bit different depending on what kind of sliding glass door you want. See our installation video archives to learn about other installation options. Here are some videos that can help you install your brand new door:

Can you buy an entire sliding glass door with doggie door installed into it, or are door inserts my only option?

The Pet Door Guys has a great through-the-glass sliding patio door with dog door built in option that has the Endura Flap installed directly into the windowpane of your French or sliding glass door.

How can I install a sliding patio door with dog door built in if my sliders meet in the middle?

You can install it like any other sliding glass door panel insert. You just need to anchor one of the sliding doors to the middle post in order to make it stable. In short, you will only be able to slide and walk through one of the sliding glass doors while the other remains secure to the pet door insert and the middle post.

How are the Endura Flap Pet Doors for Windows secured to my window?

The window inserts have a spring-loaded design, which means that they use pressure to stay secured to your window track. If you are looking to install the pet door panel semi-permanently, then you can screw it into the track. You can loosen the screw whenever you are ready to remove the window panel.

How do I lock the window pet door?

If you want to keep your pet from going in or out, you can use the locking cover to block access to the dog or cat door for window.

But if you want to prevent people from opening your window, you will need to insert a dowel or a Charley bar to hold your sliding window pane in place against the window panel. This works for both horizontal opening and sash windows.
