Single Flap vs. Double Flap
Single Flap: The Endura Single Flap Door Mount is designed for doors 1-1/8" to 1-3/4" thick. It provides excellent weather protection for moderate to harsh climates. The single-flap doggie door is ideal for those looking for an insulated pet door that is light enough for cats and small dogs. The Patio Pacific pet door magnets are adjustable as well for easier use if needed.
Double Flap: The Endura Double Flap Door Mount is designed for doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick. For severe climates with heavy snow, rain, or wind, the double-flap Endura dog door provides an extra layer of insulation to protect your home. Always measure your pet to ensure the proper fit.
Additional Door Mount Options
Door Mount for Thin Doors: For doors under 1-1/8" thick, the Endura Flap Pet Door for Thin Doors is an excellent option. It is designed to fit doors 1/2" to 1-1/8" thick.
Custom Frame Colors: Need a different frame color for the interior and exterior sides of your door? See the Custom Frame Color Single Flap Door Mount and the Custom Frame Color Double Flap Door Mount.
Locking & Security
All Endura Flap Pet Door models come with a heavy-duty, molded ABS Locking Cover to block access to the doggy door flap when needed. The locking cover keeps unwanted critters out of your home and allows you to lock the flap when you’re away for peace of mind.
Features of the Endura Flap Pet Door
Endura Flap Pet Doors are top-of-the-line in quality, durability, and insulation value. All Endura Flap doors are made in the USA and designed and manufactured in San Luis Obispo, California. Check out the unique features that make the Endura Flap Patio Pacific door for dogs the best pet door.
Environmentally Friendly: The non-toxic Polyolefin Polymer dog door flap is safe for your pets and the environment. Most pet door flaps are made of vinyl (PVC), one of the most environmentally damaging plastics to produce. The production, usage, and disposal of PVC release toxic, chlorine-based chemicals into the environment. The polyolefin polymer used for the Endura Flap exterior and interior dog door is recyclable and safe. It is commonly used in food packaging, and its production does not produce any toxic fumes.
Award-Winning Flap: In addition to being environmentally friendly, the Endura Flap pet door is made to withstand extreme heat and cold to keep your home insulated. Whereas most vinyl pet door flaps are about ⅛” thick, the Endura Flap is ⅞” thick. The sealed flap unit is slightly thicker than dual-pane glass and provides a similar level of weather protection. The flap unit is translucent for maximum ease of use by pets of all sizes. The flap’s interior is divided by horizontal barriers to reduce the effects of air currents moving within this space as it continuously heats and cools.
Severe Weather Protection: Every component of the Endura Flap Pet Door was designed for extreme weather protection. The flap is treated with UV-resistant retardant, preventing shrinking, warping, or yellowing in the sun. It is attached to an architectural extruded aluminum frame for additional durability. All Endura Flap dog door models, single and double flap, protect against temperatures from -40℉ to 110℉, as detailed in this energy performance study. In addition, magnets line all three edges of the pet door flap for 50 mph wind resistance.
Superior Manufacturing: The weather-resistant flap rotates on a rod instead of attaching to screws, preventing the warping and tearing common in standard pet doors. The magnets lining the flap are customizable, meaning you can adjust the magnet strength for timid pets or for increased wind resistance.
High-Aspect Ratio Flap: The safe, flexible Endura Flap has a high-aspect ratio. Most pet door flaps are not very high for their width, meaning you need to install the door higher up to accommodate your pet’s height. With a high-aspect-ratio flap like the Endura, you can install lower to the ground so that your pets can manage the step-over even as they grow older.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is installing a pet door in my door easy?
Installing a pet door in a door is much easier than installing through a wall, but it will require cutting a hole in your door. See our pet door for doors installation pages for more details. See our installation guide to learn about other installation options.
What’s the difference between a door mount and a wall mount?
You can read about the difference between a Door Mount and a Wall Mount here.
Where can I install the door mount pet door?
You can install the Endura Flap Door Mount in solid-core doors, hollow-core doors, metal doors, and storm doors. For doors more than 1-¾” thick (for the single flap), or 2-¼” thick (for the double flap), you will need a Wall Mount like the Endura Flap Pro Series.
Can I install the pet door on an uneven surface?
Yes, the Endura Flap Door Mount can be installed on uneven surfaces. You will just need to fill any gaps between the pet door frame and recessed surfaces with caulking to maintain insulation.
What is the difference between the regular Endura Flap and the Endura Flap for Kennels?
The Endura Flap for Kennels is a stripped-down version of the Endura Flap that only includes its essential components, which can be preferable for anyone installing the Endura Flap in bulk.
What size hole will I need to cut into my door to install a pet door?
See the “Rough Cut Out” column of the size chart on the Single Flap Door Mount or Double Flap Door Mount pages to find the dimensions of the hole you will cut in your door. Cutout size will depend on flap size, see this flap size reference chart for more details.
What if I want to close the pet door at night?
Every Endura Flap Pet Door comes with a Locking Cover to block access to the flap when needed. For extra protection, you can install the Watchdog Security Dog Cover.
Are there Endura replacement flaps available?
Yes, we carry Replacement Endura Flaps. See our full selection of Pet Door Replacement Parts and Accessories for more replacement options.
Why is there a difference in flap size for the single and double flap models?
As your dog walks through the double flap, the first flap hits the second one. Since each flap is ⅞” thick, the combined thickness of the two flaps takes up some space, accounting for a loss of about 1” at the top 1" of space a the top as they enter or exit.
Can cats and dogs share this door?
Yes, cats and dogs can share this door. However, we do not recommend flap sizes larger than the Small for cats, since these flaps are so insulating and heavy-duty.
If you need a larger flap size for your dog, you can adjust the magnet strength so that your cat can use the door too. Keep in mind that this will reduce the wind resistance of the flap. If you have a very large dog but want a door for your cat as well, you might consider installing another Endura Flap for Your Cat with a small flap size.
Can I install this into a glass surface?
Not directly, but we work with other manufacturers so that we can offer a version of the Endura Flap pet door that is built directly into the glass of your door. Check out the Utah Pet Access door.
