Dog Doors for Walls FAQ
Should I choose a single or double flap wall mount pet door?
A double flap wall mount pet door is perfect for those who need superior insulation, wind resistance, and aesthetics. For moderate climates or unheated spaces, a single flap will suffice.
Most importantly, make sure you choose a flap size that comfortably accommodates your pet's size. For installation and measurement details, refer to our Measuring Guide.
Are all wall mount pet doors weatherproof?
High-quality wall mount pet doors like Endura Flap effectively prevent any drafts or moisture from entering your home while remaining durable. To ensure that your pet door is weatherproof and your wall is not damaged by water, make sure all of the seams around the pet door frame and inside the tunnel are sealed (such as with caulking).
How secure is a wall mount pet door?
Endura Flap pet doors include a slide-in locking cover that will act as a significant barrier to entry. For maximum protection, you can also protect your home with an additional steel cover from Watchdog Security
Are expensive pet doors worth it?
Higher-priced pet doors offer superior energy efficiency, durability, and warranties compared to economically priced pet doors, which can potentially save you money in the long run. Additionally, expensive pet doors are typically better sealed against moisture, which can prevent your wall from experiencing expensive water damage.
This quality is also important to keep in mind when you are making permanent modifications to your home. While a budget pet door can work for installing into hinge doors, in-wall pet doors need to be installed into a permanent wall in your home. For many pet owners, a home improvement project of that scale requires a high-quality pet door to match.
Are there any affordable pet doors available?
Endura Flap pet doors are built with the highest quality and performance in mind, and they are backed by a lifetime warranty. This does mean that the price point for an Endura Flap door may be higher than other pet doors. However, you won't be disappointed by the years of consistent performance you see from your Endura Flap pet door!
How often do I need to replace my pet door's parts?
The most common reason for needing to replace a part, such as the flap, in an Endura Flap pet door is chewing damage caused by a pet. If you suspect your pet might be a chewer, or you have a younger pet who has never used a pet door before, consider buying a pet-safe, bitter tasting spray that will deter an chewing. Over time, your pet will learn that the flap is not a chew toy, and you can expect years of consistent performance from your door.
If you do find yourself in need of any replacement parts, simply navigate to our Parts and Accessories page to find what you need.
Can I install the pet door myself?

What should I do if I have pets of different sizes?
The Endura Flap can be a heavy flap for smaller pets, and if you have a mixed size pet family, some of your pets might find it difficult to push through. If possible, choose a single flap version of the pet door since this will keep the weight just to one flap. Also, you can modify the magnet configuration, removing some, and this will make it easier to break the magnetic connection and start pushing the flap. Often, once a pet figures out how to use a door, they will be just fine, but if you need further help, don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team for tips and tricks.
Can I install wall mount dog doors in walls with siding?
Yes, but the installation method will depend on your specific situation. Please reach out to our customer service team for additional details and support.
Regardless of the method, ensure everything is properly sealed to prevent water damage and drafts.
What is a telescoping tunnel?
The telescoping tunnel of the Endura Flap wall units consists of two nested aluminum parts that can be slid together or farther apart to fit your exact wall depth. Not only does this make installation a much smoother process, but it also minimizes the amount of sealing you need to do on the interior of the wall. The aluminum material provides a great amount of stability and durability for the pet door as well.
Keep in mind that the Endura Flap wall units come in two different versions to match your wall thickness:
- For typical wall thicknesses of 4-1/2" to 7-1/2" see the Endura Flap Wall Mount Pet Door
- For thicker walls, up to 13", check out the Endura Flap Wall Mount Pet Door for Thick Walls
Are there pet doors for larger breeds?
We have sizes available from small to XXL that should be great for any breed. See our measuring guide to determine which pet door size fits your pet.
What should I consider when choosing a pet door for a small pet?
For small pets, consider the step-over height, flap size, ease of use, and overall durability. Ensure that the door is low enough for your pet to step over comfortably and that the flap isn't too heavy to push open. The Endura Flap small size door features a 6" x 11" flap that is suitable for cats and dog breeds such as the Chihuahua or Dachshund.
How should I measure my pet for a wall mount pet door?
Measure your pet from the floor to the top of the shoulder to determine the height of the door. For the width, measure your pet at the widest point and add an inch or two for comfort. If you have more than one pet, measure all of them and choose a size that will accommodate the largest pet.
What maintenance does a wall mount pet door require?
Regularly check the frame and flaps for any signs of wear and tear. Wipe down the flaps as needed to keep them clean. A simple solution of non-abrasive dish soap and warm water is great for cleaning the flaps. Ensure the security cover fits snugly and the locking mechanism works properly. Check the caulking around the exterior of the door to make sure it remains sealed against the weather.
Can I replace just the flaps on my pet door?
We have replacement Endura Flaps available here.
Is a wall mount pet door a permanent solution or can it be removed?
A wall mount pet door can be removed, but it will leave a hole in the wall that needs to be filled and repaired. If you are planning to remove the door in the future, make sure to retain any removed building materials for later use in the repair.
What other options do I have if I can't install a wall mount pet door?
If a wall mount pet door isn't feasible, consider a door mount pet door or a sliding glass door pet door. You can even install a pet door in your window!
How do I install a pet door into a weatherboard wall?
You can install a pet door into a weatherboard wall, but you may experience gaping along the frame, which will cause drafts to come into your home. To prevent gaping, you will need to build out the area you want to install your pet door with additional wood or plaster.
